Abstract

This paper explores the relationship between nighttime light intensity and global violence using intentional homicide rates and deaths in armed conflicts from 1990-2019. Examines how economic development (proxied by nighttime lights) correlates with various forms of violence, including terrorism and conflict related to Peru’s Shining Path insurgency.
